Hire Solution for Lower Costs - DAC
The formation of a new hire division is helping bring the benefits of Dig A Crusher & Dig A Screener products to an even wider audience.
Following the much-reported meltdown of the global economy and the collapse of the UK construction workload, many pundits have voiced concern that the industry’s environmental good intentions might be set aside as companies seek merely to survive the unprecedented downturn.
However, thanks to its close working relationship with its customers, Dig A Crusher has used the current economic climate as an opportunity to introduce the materials recycling benefits of its product range to an even wider audience.
Towards the back-end of 2008, long before the true depth of the present downturn had been recognised, the company formed a new hire division to offer its range of excavator-mounted jaw crusher and screening bucket attachments on a short-term rental basis. “We originally started the hire division primarily as a way of introducing the Dig A Crusher and Dig A Screener concept to a wider audience and to customers who did not have sufficient levels of material to process to justify an outright purchase,” says director Terry McSweeeney “However, with the downshift in the market, the hire alternative has become increasingly popular.”
Although the current economic climate has undoubtedly made customers more sensitive to capital expenditure, McSweeney believes the popularity of the hire alternative is also based upon the industry’s shift towards a cost per tonne style of working. “During a recession, everyone is tightening their belts and watching their expenditure. In addition, following the recent banking fiasco, equipment finance is pretty hard to come by,” McSweeney asserts. “By selecting the rental option, our customers know their costs in advance, allowing them to make informed decisions on even the smallest crushing and screening projects.”
According to McSweeney, the sums speak for themselves. Depending upon geographic location and distance from the nearest landfill, the cost of removing unsuitable material from site and then replacing it with suitable material can be exremely high. By using a Dig A Crusher or Dig A Screener attachment, the material never leaves the site and it is transformed from a waste product into a potentially valuable commodity that can sell for a lot of money per tonne. “If you are regularly crushing large tonnages of material and have high expected levels of utilisation, it still makes good financial sense to purchase the attachment outright,” McSweeney concludes. “But if you’re faced with crushing just a few hundred tonnes of material every once in a while, then hire is an excellent alternative.
